When a landowner contacts us, we personally visit the property to evaluate the timber and determine whether it meets current market demand. We primarily seek black walnut and white oak, with a minimum diameter of 18 inches at chest height (DBH). If the timber qualifies, we provide a clear and straightforward estimate of how many trees are marketable, the approximate board-foot yield per tree, and an estimated value per board foot based on market conditions. Once terms are agreed upon, we operate on a simple profit-sharing model—typically 50/50, and in some cases 60/40, depending on the project. J&L Logging handles the entire harvesting process, including felling, cutting, and laying out logs on-site. Buyers are brought directly to the property, and logs are sold on the spot for full transparency. Logs are cut and stacked for truck loading, and the landowner is paid before any logs leave the property.
